Connecticut Spring & Stamping - Stamps Out High Electricity Costs

Farmington, CT (PRWEB) May 30, 2008 -- Connecticut Spring & Stamping, an international precision parts manufacturer, found that lean initiatives enable the company to operate more efficiently, more green and with a savings to operating costs.

The Director of Lean Initiatives, Gaston Pelletier, has a goal for all departments and employees to strive for efficiencies in the reduction of waste and the improvement of processes.

The Facilities Manager, Joe Tourville uncovered energy saving opportunities with the electricity deregulations. He was able to receive competitive price quotes resulting in huge cost savings for operations of the spring and metal stamping manufacturing plant.

In 2006 Joe Tourville began researching the electricity deregulations. A meeting with energy broker, Mark Longhi from Northeast Energy Partners (NEP neEnergyPartners.com) was the beginning of a successful partnership and an opportunity for tremendous electric savings.

The plant runs two shifts a day from 6:00 a.m. to midnight with a monthly usage of 300,000 kWh. By the end of 2006, an October contract with TransCanada Power Marketing revealed a savings of $5,000. In 2007 the dramatic savings were approximately $55,000 over the open market rate. Electric savings for 2008 are continuing.

Connecticut Spring and Stamping has taken many steps to conserve energy, one successful step was to switch to energy efficient lighting. With the deregulation of natural gas, the next step is to have Northeast Energy Partners provide a trend analysis and gas energy-saving options. Additional initiatives include the procurement of an innovative air compressor that will generate air and heat that is expected to reduce the manufacturing operating costs by an additional $18,000-$23,000.

About Connecticut Spring & Stamping (www.ctspring.com): Headquartered in Farmington, CT, this manufacturer of precision parts (springs and metal stampings) for the Medical, Aerospace, Firearms and Defense industries worldwide has been in business since 1939.

An Introduction to Metal Stamping Machines
Metal stamping machines are used to give the exact shape and parameters to the metal products. When a metal sheet is inserted into the metal stamping machine, it can be molded into the exact shape.

Precision Metal Stamping
Precision metal stamping sounds like a difficult process to describe. The main goal of this article is to simplify the intricate details of this process.

Precision Machining
Precision machining involves producing of metal parts, which are extremely intricate and are mainly made from thin metal sheets. Besides precision metal parts are often custom made for specific purposes. However there are distinct techniques such as chemical etching, metal stamping, and RF shielding for producing precision metal parts.

What is Metal Stamping?
Metal stamping is the process of cutting and shaping metal alloys into specific forms, especially to be used as components for large machinery or structures. Metal sheets can be molded into different pre-determined shapes for use as regular products like pans and cans.

Metal Fabrication Processes - What is CNC Punching?
There are several ways to create holes in steel. One method is called milling, which involves drilling. Another method is called stamping, involving a punch press. Still another method utilizes a process called CNC Punching, which involves computer aided positioning systems to quickly and efficiently create metal parts. While other methods such as laser and waterjet cutting are valuable for other reasons, this informative article addresses CNC Punching in depth.

The Custom Metal Stamping Process
Today, manufacturing has embraced a wide range of advanced technologies that have enabled the reduction of turnaround time considerably. As a result, demand on the metal stamping industry has also increased as the components have to be made to be exactly suitable to the final product.

The Important Function of Metal Stamping Dies
Metal stamping dies are the devices used in metal stamping machines. Each metal stamping machine can have one or more than one dies depending on the kind of machine. Dies are the main components in metal stamping machines that do the actual casting, punching, cutting and shaping of the metal sheet.

A Look at Sheet Metal Stamping
Sheet metal stamping is the system wherein metal sheets are used for producing final products. When a metal sheet is inserted into the die or the press, it is molded into the required shape and size. Metal sheets of only a certain thickness can be inserted into metal stamping machines.

The Process of Precision Metal Stamping
Precision metal stamping is the process of making 3-dimensional metal parts, lettering and other embossing. This is a kind of metal stamping used mostly for decorative purposes. It is similar to normal metal stamping, which is the process of molding metal into different shapes and sizes.

Valuable tips to buy original and stamped Sheet Metal
Some times, sheet metals are used to produce different components by using the process of sheet metal stamping. In the process of sheet metal stamping to produce stamped sheet metal components, a metal sheet is inserted into a die or a press. By applying pressure on the die, the sheet metal is moulded into the required shape and size Sheet metals up to only a certain thickness could be used in these metal stamping machines. For most of the metals, the maximum thickness is ΒΌ inch. But, in special cases, machines could be designed to handle thicker sheet metal. Also, only sheets made from specific materials could be used. They include aluminum, brass, steel (both hot rolled or cold rolled), galvanized steel, stainless steel, copper, zinc and ...
